Extraction method: steam distillation
Plant part: leaves, twigs and flowers during flowering
Aroma: bright, light, green floral, slightly sharp, terpenic with a soft, slightly sweet woody and floral undertone. Very close to the scent of neroli essential oil, so in perfumery it is sometimes used as a substitute for expensive neroli essential oil
Perfumery note: top, heart
Blends well with: benzoin, bergamot, cardamom, cedar, clary sage, geranium, jasmine, labdanum, lavender, melissa, neroli, orange, rosemary, sandalwood, ylang ylang essential oils.
Citrus aurantium var. amara fruit tree gives us three luxurious aromatic substances:
- bitter orange essential oil, which is obtained from the fruit peel;
- petitgrain essential oil or absolute, which is obtained from the leaves of the plant;
- neroli essential oil, which is obtained from the orange tree flowers.

Aromatherapy properties:

- improves sleep, helps to relax;
- when used for massage, relaxes tired, tense, painful muscles.
Perfumery properties:
- initially fresh and floral, as it dries it reveals herbal, woody and musky notes;
- particularly suitable for masculine fragrances, colognes.

Petitgrain absolute – an exceptional substance that has accumulated aromatic substances characteristic not only of leaves but also of flowers and fruits. Therefore, the aroma of petitgrain reveals both terpenic top notes and passionate, rich, floral heart notes.
Perfumery properties
- this essential oil lasts up to 12 hours on a test strip;
- particularly suitable for creating masculine fragrances;
- when used in perfumes, petitgrain absolute is noticeable from the top note to the heart, and it also colors the perfume with a rich green hue.
